A generated care plan starts as a draft. Review and publish it when it is ready to become the patient’s current plan. Generating or saving a draft does not send it to Athena.
Open or generate a care plan
Open Patients in the navigation menu.
Find the patient and click their entry in the Care plan column. If they do not have a plan yet, click Generate to open the care plan workspace.
Check the Template and Focus conditions selections.
Click Generate draft and wait for the draft to appear.
Already have a draft? Open it and continue reviewing—you do not need to generate another one.
Review and edit
Read each section before publishing. Click Edit beside a section to update its content, then Done to return to the plan view.
Use Save draft to save changes and finish reviewing later. The plan remains a draft. If you see Care plan goals need attention, resolve the highlighted issues before saving or publishing.
The Version selector identifies draft and published versions. When editing an existing published plan, use Save as draft to save a new draft.
Publish to Athena
Click Publish.
In the confirmation window, review Email a copy to the patient. Leave it selected if you want to email the plan, or clear it if you do not.
Click Publish again.
Publishing starts sending a PDF of the care plan to the patient’s Athena chart as a clinical document. If you selected the email option, the patient needs an email address on file to receive a copy.
Athena delivery happens after publication. Check the patient’s chart to confirm the document is available; the Published label in Sematic does not confirm that the Athena upload has finished.
Review drafts prepared in bulk
Open Care plan review in the navigation menu. This queue shows pending drafts created in bulk for the selected department.
Review and edit each plan, check Email patient if needed, then click Publish & next to publish and move on. Use Skip to move past a draft without publishing it.
An empty queue does not mean every patient has a published plan. You can still open individual plans from Patients.
